The Northern Territory is a dramatic, timeless place of vast horizons, rainforests and water holes, red sand and Spinifex grass plains. Birds…There are over 700 species of birds living in Australia - A great reason to visit Australia because… you’ll camp in Gunlom, Northern Territory for a chance to see the white-throated grasswren (not seen anywhere else in the world).  You’ll stay in Lamington National Park, a World Heritage listed rainforest and home to over 232 rainforest and eucalypt forest species.  You’ll visit the Blue Mountains.  How many new species will you see; how many new songs will you hear?  Whether it’s one in a thousand or a thousand at once, the birds of Australia are waiting for you.

Climate and geography

The first is the Territory's tropical north, which includes the Darwin, Kakadu and Katherine regions. This northern region starts the year with heavy rain, which brings the landscape to life. Towards mid-year, the humidity levels drop and the days are warm and sunny and nights are cool. The end of the year is pre-monsoonal season, the rain is on its way again and humidity levels rise.

The second zone is Central Australia, which includes the Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Uluru (Ayers Rock) regions. This central region is semi-arid and experiences Australia’s four typical seasons: summer, autumn, winter and spring. The monsoon rains do not extend this far south so the weather is quite different to the Top End in that there is no tropical rainy season. The following chart outlines Alice Springs’ monthly climate averages as an indicator for the whole central region.
